Would you read this book? As an avid fan of Jane Austen and a slightly obsessive Whovian, I’m pretty sure my poor children wouldn’t see much of me for some time. I have been known to seamlessly go from binge watching Doctor Who on Netflix to picking up my tattered copy of Pride and Prejudice–all in one sitting. I can safely say that I have spent my summer doing little else, except scattered afternoons at the beach, where the sea breeze flips the loose pages of said book. Yes, I spend time working on my own manuscript, listening to Dario Marianelli for inspiration, and always going back to read Jane Austen. I love the Jane connection Billie Piper and David Tennant share. They were each in separate interpretations of Mansfield Park, which celebrates its 200th anniversary this year. How lovely would it be to see the TARDIS materialize in Longbourn. I would love to see weeping angels haunt the halls of Northanger Abbey or perhaps a fob watch in the hands of Mr. Bingley. Aunt Norris would be revealed at last to be a Dalek Puppet, and The Doctor Darcy would prevail against his own family of blood: Lady Catherine DeBourgh and her “daughter of mine”. Perhaps someday we will be treated to a Doctor Who/Jane Austen mash-up along the same vein as Pride and Prejudice and Zombies or William Shakespeare’s Star Wars. If someone would take it a step further and make it into a musical, I would be in absolute heaven.
